John Wycliffe Primary School

‘Striving for excellence in all that we do!’

Governors

(LGB) Local Governing Body

On the 1st of June 2017 John Wycliffe Primary School joined the Inspiring Primaries Academy Trust.  From this date, the Full Governing Body (FGB) became the Local Governing Body (LGB).

We aspire to give our pupils the best possible education delivered in a happy, caring and safe environment. Each child is treated as an individual and supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

The core purposes of our LGB:

1. To provide advice, support and challenge to school leaders, helping pupils to thrive, guarding
its ethos and managing its relationship with its community.
2. To ensure compliance with statutory requirements and
Trust / School policies.
3. To support the Trust CEO on the performance management of the Executive Principal or
Headteacher.
4. To work with the Trust CEO, DIrector of Finance and Operations, Finance Manager and
relevant Business Manager on the staffing structure of the school and on recommending an
initial budget to the Finance and Audit Committee.
5. To report annually to the Trust Board on the school’s achievements and areas for development.

John Wycliffe is already a good school but we want it to continue to improve and develop so we work closely with the Headteacher and the senior leaders to make key decisions and agree the priorities for the school. All governors are involved in formal monitoring visits to evaluate the school in action. We attend parent evenings and are also warmly welcomed to school events such as concerts, sports day and even Christmas lunch!

The Local Governing Body (LGB) meets at least once a term, but much work is also conducted through our sub-committees which meet regularly. The Governing Body is comprised of parents, staff, and co-opted members largely from the local community. Vacancies are advertised when they arise.  We also ensure that all members of the Governing body have consistent access to training via the NGA website.

Current governors, including their role within the Local Governing Body  and terms of office can be found by navigating to the Governance Committee Members page.
